Four Ways a Well-Being Check Makes a Difference

When we tell people we are the Meals On Wheels Provider for DuPage County a lot of the time we get a response or comment that relates just to the food. Not very often do we get recognition for providing a service that allows a senior to age in place. One of our vital services we provide is a Well-Being Check.

As a team we found four ways that our Well-Being Checks keep a senior safe and in their home:

  • Making Sure a Senior Is in Good Health

When we deliver a meal to a senior or drop by for any of services our volunteers or staff are performing a visual evaluation to ensure the seniors is in good health. If there is something that does not seem right with the senior, we will contact their emergency contact or 911 if needed.

  • Providing Peace of Mind

A senior can rest assure that there will be a volunteer or DSCC staff member looking out for their well-being. If they happen to slip, fall or any type of emergency we will be there to check on them and get them the help they need. This can help a senior feel safer and more confident in their home. • If We Do Not See Them

If a senior does not answer the door we will begin the Emergency Follow Up protocol. Which is calling the seniors to let them know we have arrived with the meal. When there is no answer from the senior we will call their emergency contact. By the end of the business day if we do not hear from the senior we will call the non-emergency police. When something is wrong with the senior a staff member or a volunteer will call 911 immediately.

  • Caring for A Loved One

A lot of seniors who live at home have children who are unable to care for their parent because they live out of state. Our Well-Being Check Service provides adult children or adult grandchildren with reassurance that there is a person checking on them to make sure they are doing great.

There are millions of other benefits and reasons why our Well-Being Check Service is vital to DuPage Senior Citizens Council. This service is intertwined with all of our services we provide seniors. If there are any questions or concerns about our Well-Being Check Service please feel free to call 630-620-0804 or email info@dupageseniorcouncil.org.
