Bridge Jobs and Retirement
Happy New Year everyone!
This year may be the year you start thinking about retirement, which is great! But maybe you aren’t quite ready to throw in the towel yet. Since you are thinking of slowing down and retiring maybe it is time to consider a bridge job.
You may be asking what exactly is a bridge job?
A bridge job is a career or a job that comes after your previous career and before retirement. This job or career helps one ease into retirement and is less strenuous or time consuming then the previous, allowing more time to slow down and prep for full retirement! With one of the largest generations getting ready to retire, bridge jobs are becoming more and more common. According to a recent AARP study, 80% of baby boomers are expected to work at least a part time job even after the traditional retirement age. Boomers feel that it is important to still be active and involved as they are aging. Another reason a boomer is considering a bridge job and working past the traditional retirement age is because of the uncertainty or dwindling funding for social security and the rarity of pensions. Popular bridge jobs for older adults include teaching, coaching, bank teller, and freelancing. These are just a few that have been deemed the most popular. The reason these jobs are great bridge jobs for older adults is because they offer flexibility and can be less stressful than a current career.
Bridge jobs can also come in the form of lifelong passion projects or hobbies like crafting that can generate income. Bridge jobs are a great way to ease into retirement and get ready for your golden years.
Just remember January is when the job market opens. Brush that resume off and get ready to ease into retirement!
